Consigned work made for and performed at the opening of the exhibtion "Natural Born History" by Hilarius Hofstede, showing at Museum of Natural History Denmark.
The exhibiton explores the relations between human, nature and human nature. Using the motto "pop is your guide to nature" Hilarius Hofstede has intervened with the historic findings on display and mixed them with modern consumer products ranging from washing machines and detergents to records covers and electric guitars and posters by both Warhol and Beuys, thus creating a primeval landscape of consumption.

I was consigned to create a piece of noise for the opening of the exhibition, based strictly on the sounds of the hippo.
The size, volume and brutality of a hippo makes a quite good physical association of noise, as well as contextualizing the prototype of noise. The digital treatments are merely refining the primitive to fit the cultivated.

As the variety of the sounds emitted from the hippo are quite limited, i decided to use various sounds from the enviroment surrounding the hippo such as water splash, hippos running, bird noises etc., in order to estabilsh not only the notion of the hippo, but also the settings in which it roams. Thus trying to create a distorted tour in the wilderness for the listener, displaying the different aspects of hippo activity by manipulating rather pieceful sounds of nature into the sounds of a post-musical context.
