On this page i've collected 5 short videos that serves as an introduction to my oeuvre. If you want to listen to my audio output, go here.
ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
Electric Light Orchestra is a sound installation that is driven by the failed attempts at powering up a series of neon-tube lights. The installation mimics a traditional rock band (hence the name) but the only sounds that are heard are clicks, hisses and hums. Not unlike the early glitch music works. With the small difference that this is the sound of pure electric power; Microphones pick up the tiny sounds of volts trying to turn on the light and amplify those sounds through a couple of classic Marshall rock-amps. The result is a completely unpredictable rythmic pattern in a set-up that gives way to a new notion of 100% random, or more precisely: 100% un-intended music performed by a series of analog processes. Video from the installation at Ikast Kunstpakhus 2011.
CLOSER TO GOD - CLOSER TO YOU
Each turntable has a unique, special cut 7" record that the audience can either activate or 'bypass' by not engaging the turntable. All sounds are derived from erotic movies, however only selected groans and moans, and then manipulated carefully to create a reminiscence of a revivalist meeting or sense of near-religious uplift. With all turntables spinning, standing in the center of the circle you'll experience mild hysteria based on a primal instinct in true surround sound. Video from the installation at Ikast Kunstpakhus 2011.
SPIDERBYTES
A very direct visualization of sound; Utilizing the physics of sound to create 'animals' that will leave a trace dependent on the sound fed to them. The Spiderbytes installation has been shown in different locations and slightly different versions in cities such as Berlin (DE), Viborg (DK), Madrid (ES), Ikast (DK) and Waterford (IRL). Recently Spiderbytes was awarded with a Honorary Mention in the category Digital Music and Sound Art at Prix Ars Electronica.
LITTLE EARTHQUAKES
The video for Little Earthquakes is a studio remake of an installation that was on display in Ikast 2011. It tries to illustrate a huge phenomenon on a very small scale using sound and cinnamon in a quite worn speaker.
DRIFTING SPACES
These videos are part of an ongoing series begun in 2010, however some of the recordings dates back to 2008. All videos and sounds must strictly be recorded in subway stations, sound post-processing is done to enhance the sense of a concrete non-space or simply to dramatize the uneventful...
The videos that spawned the project (New York, London and Rio De Janeiro) were exhibited online on www.torpedo18.dk, a website dedicated contemporary art in difficult accessible locations in public and private spaces. Watch them here. This video features the two latest additions Paris and Lisbon, both made in 2011.
Please use decent speakers or headphones when playing the videos, since ordinary pc / built-in laptop speakers will not be able to handle the very low frequencies in the soundtracks.
